  • One of Manhattan Beach's best gift shops Tabula Rasa Essentials in downtown MB is holding its first-ever Christmas in September event Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. All Vietri entertaining pieces will be sold at 20% off. Tabula Rasa will be "setting our tables with the most beautiful products to inspire your holiday celebrations. Irresistibly Italian, our luxurious glazes, textures and hand-painted details will elevate your home, whether having a quiet dinner or entertaining guests."
  • Fans of the movie Grease have two opportunities this weekend to catch the hit musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. On Friday, Sept. 27, moviegoers can pack up a car and head to the Roadium Open Air Market (itself a bit of South Bay history) for the venue's Drive-In Movie Nights. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Food trucks and concessions will be available. The film starts at sundown. The Roadium opened 60 years ago as a drive-in theater on 15 acres. It now hosts open-air shopping markets daily with some 500 shoppers checking out goods from vendors representing more than a dozen different countries. Tickets are $20 per vehicle (not per person), which includes a $5 admission fee per car and $15 for parking and a charitable contribution to a local nonprofit organization, and can be purchased in advance on Eventbrite. The Roadium is at 2500 Redondo Beach Blvd., Torrance; 310-532-5678. Grease will be screened Saturday, Sept. 28 on the Redondo Beach Pier during Free Movie Nights presented by the Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach, Redondo Pier Association, and King Harbor Association. The movie's official event time is 7:30-10 p.m. at 500 Fisherman's Wharf, Redondo Pier. Bring low-back beach chairs and blankets to The Boardwalk below Kincaid's restaurant on the RB Pier.
  • The new Nordstrom Rack store will open Thursday, Sept. 26 in Plaza El Segundo at 720 South Pacific Coast Highway. Seattle-based Nordstrom’s off-price sister department-store chain, Nordstrom Rack, has added 16 Nordstrom Rack stores for a total of 236 outlets compared to 117 Nordstrom stores in recent history. The El Segundo Rack store features 23,640 square feet and is located in a shopping center with a Whole Foods grocery store, a Home Goods store, Best Buy, and a Dick’s Sporting Goods. Call (310) 765-5461 to reach the store.
