MBPD Checkpoint Nets DUI Drivers

Four drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15 during a checkpoint set up on Manhattan Beach Boulevard and John Street, according to data from the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

Traffic Sgt. Scott Combs said two traffic citations were issued to unlicensed drivers.

In all, the checkpoint, which ran from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. last Saturday and Sunday, vetted 634 vehicles that drove through the checkpoint, said Sgt. Combs.

In 2016, 10,497 people died as the result of an alcohol-impaired driving crash (one person every 50 minutes), according to the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
